A Brief Summary of the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club

by Jon Schorsch

Since June 2009, I have been a member of the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club. Water skiing is one of my favorite pastimes, along with other outdoor activities like snow skiing, golf, and sailing. As a member of the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club, I am privy to a group of enthusiastic athletes who work to advance the sport as a safe, pleasurable form of exercise and enjoyment. Additional benefits of membership to this club include the use of private lake rentals, the inclusion in tournaments and training clinics, and the resource of a list of members with whom to ski.

With a history that reaches back to 1956, the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club boasts one of the largest ski club memberships in the U.S. While the condoned sport of this club is water skiing, the organization encourages the practice of wakeboarding, wakeskating, kneeboarding, barefooting, and other water-related activities on Lake Sammamish. The club is most active during the months of March to September, when members participate in meetings, tournaments, and other activities.

During the warmer months, the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club supports several local events for the community. Water skiing clinics for the blind and involvement with inner-city youth remain some of the club’s most popular sponsored activities, while the organization also schedules about six multi- and single-day lake rental events for members. The Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club arranges a Ski Fari social event for its members to say goodbye to the water skiing season. For more information about this organization, or to find out how to become a member, visit the Lake Sammamish Water Ski Club website at lswsc.org.
