Jon Schorsch's Blogspot: Blogger

After losing his eyesight in a boating accident in 2006, Jon Schorsch has become a leader and advocate for the blind community. Jon Schorsch currently instructs self-defense for the National Federation of the Blind, the largest organization of its kind in the United States. In addition, Jon Schorsch is a member of the United States Blind Golf Association and recently joined the Board of Directors of Community Services for the Blind and Partially Sighted.

Before his accident, Jon Schorsch served the Port of Seattle Police Department as an Officer and Sergeant for over a decade. Although he no longer is a member of the force, Jon Schorsch contributes to the Department in many ways, including his membership in the Port of Seattle Police Benevolent Association. Jon Schorsch has also highlighted the issue of crisis relief for public safety officials as a speaker for SafeCallNow.org. During his time with the Port of Seattle Police Department, Jon Schorsch received certification as a peer counselor, and he has expanded his knowledge in this field in recent years. In 2008, Jon Schorsch took a course in Basic Mediation Training at the Dispute Resolution Center of Island and Snohomish Counties, where he now volunteers regularly. Jon Schorsch is also pursuing a Master of Public Administration at Seattle University and expects to graduate in 2011.

An avid water skier, Jon Schorsch practices the extreme sport throughout the year, often traveling to Ski Paradise in Acapulco, Mexico. Back home in Washington, Jon Schorsch practices on the pristine waters of Lake Sammamish, located just east of Seattle, as a member of the Lake Sammamish Waterski Club.
